Re-imagining the operatic DIVA

Violet is a hyperdeity for sexual violence created by and for survivors.

Appearing in venues, halls, opera houses and theatres to liberate the spaces & the people from the demons of the patriachy with the power of electronic music, joy & rage

Since 2020, I have been writing dance music, forging a unique music identity that speaks directly to the survivor in all of us. Violet, a hyperdeity, serves as a powerful beacon of hope for those who have endured trauma. Electronic music can unlock catharsis that empowers survivors, enabling us to reconnect with our bodies, delve into our emotions, and move the tumultuous path of continous healing.

I am currently finishing the score for the Violet experience ‘FEEL’ with the generous support from the Arts Council. "FEEL." is a transcendent composition that takes the audience on an enchanting, ritualistic journey, drawing inspiration from the stages of ceremony of deliverence. At the core of this musical odyssey lies the intertwined voices of 'R', a survivor whose searching for meaning in what has happened, and Violet, the hyperdeity who creates a space for 'R' to delve deep into the phases of healing after sexual violence including rage, vengence, accountability, trasncendence, despair, pleasure seeking and reconnecting with the body..

Violet’s development was originally commissioned by Royal Opera House, Sirt, and the Finnish National Opera House. These opportunities have allowed me to research in and around the world of healing after sexual violence including areas of representations of rape and sexual violence in western opera, divas and representations of the surivivor in modern media, the pursuit of justice, abolisionist ideologies, PTSD, trauma & the nervous system, raving as refuge.
